Many people steer away from visiting Europe after September, but let me tell you, the crowds reduce, the hotel prices drop with the temperatures and all over Europe the leaves start changing adding yellow, red and orange to any city. Maybe it is the Texan in me where we only have two seasons, summer and winter, but the changing colors has been one of my favorite things about Europe! November especially is a fun time in Cologne with the opening celebration of the Cologne Carnival which kicks of a vibrancy to the city that continues through February. More on that later!
Cologne is a beautiful city for a visit any time of year, the winter is pretty mild, they have one of the best Christmas markets in Germany set beneath the stunning cathedral and the summers are enjoyed sitting by the Rhine River with a late picnic-dinner of bread, cheese, meats and wine until the sun goes down around 10PM.
